Every day, people spend thousands of dollars on haircare and skincare. We buy shampoo, body lotion, Q-Tips, hair gel, razors, antiperspirant, etc…virtually every part of our bodies is covered. Surprisingly, lip care products are seemingly less abundant. There are a ton of lip balms and lipsticks out there, but I’m talking about lip scrubs – i.e., products that actually help plump and smooth our lips by gently exfoliating off old skin. From what I’ve seen, when drugstores and beauty stores do offer lip scrubs, they’re priced somewhere between $20 and $45. For a lip scrub. Isn’t that a little much?! They’re also loaded with scary and hard-to-pronounce ingredients that have no business being on our lips.
That’s why I decided to share my easy-peasy organic lip scrub recipe with you. The best part is that you probably already have these ingredients at home! (If you don’t have coconut oil on hand, olive oil works just as well.)
30-Second Lip Scrub:
1/8 tsp brown sugar
1/8 tsp unrefined, virgin coconut oil (I like this one) or olive oil.
Rub the ingredients between your fingers to form a grainy paste. Massage over your lips in small circles for 15 seconds, then gently rinse and pat your lips dry. Apply Vaseline or plain lip balm to moisturize, if needed. Makes enough for one scrub.
Easy enough! Why not try it out and see how it works for you? Coconut oil is incredibly hydrating and brown sugar makes for great exfoliation, so the two are perfect together. You can even add coffee grinds to the mixture and use it as a brightening and exfoliating face scrub! Have fun. 🙂
